The Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden commissioned this work after seeing my work with coins. Could I create artworks with the gems and still keep true to their identity? Gems are almost impossible to photograph with both color and engraving – I searched for the solution and guided  my choice with Goethe’s subjective theories of color.
